Meta appears to be gearing up to incorporate displays into its popular Ray-Ban smart glasses, as reported by the Financial Times. These features might debut in a future version of the product, potentially by the latter half of 2025.

Sources close to Meta's plans suggest that these displays will be relatively compact, presumably intended for showing notifications or interactions from Meta’s AI virtual assistant. At this stage, it seems unlikely that the company is aiming to develop a fully immersive mixed-reality device.

For that purpose, Meta has its newly revealed Orion AR glasses, which are still a few years away from release. The recent report notes that the favorable reception of the Orion glasses may have expedited their development and improved the chances for a commercial launch, dispelling previous doubts about whether they would remain merely a prototype.

The Ray-Ban smart glasses have turned out to be an unexpected success for Meta, and it’s not hard to understand why. They boast an attractive design and commendable functionality. The latest version features built-in speakers, cameras, microphones, and connectivity with Meta’s virtual assistant.

I personally appreciate the straightforward design of the current model, especially for capturing photos and videos. My hope is that the inclusion of screens will not compromise this simplicity or hinder enhancements to the camera system.

After all, Ray-Ban smart glasses are excellent for quickly snapping pictures of pets. Anyone who has attempted to coax a pet into staying still long enough to retrieve a phone from a bag understands the challenge. These stylish glasses provide a practical solution to that problem.
