Dune: Prophecy is set for a second season on HBO, just as the first season approaches its finale. This announcement comes ahead of the season 1 climax, which is scheduled for December 22nd.
The series, which debuted in November, is set 10,000 years before the events depicted in Denis Villeneuve's Dune films. It features Emily Watson and Olivia Williams in the roles of two Harkonnen sisters who establish the influential sect known as the Bene Gesserit.
Showrunner Alison Schapker explained that while the Harkonnens are portrayed as clear villains in the films, the series aims to explore their origins, highlighting how they evolved into the fearsome characters seen on screen. "This kind of story gave us a chance to complicate that understanding," she remarked, emphasizing the depth of the characters.
No release date for the second season has been announced. However, it won't be the only Dune-related project in development; a third Dune film is in progress, along with a survival game set on the desert planet Arrakis.
